The Supreme Court has granted another six months as the last extension of the deadline for the completion of the trial in the actress attack case. After considering the request of the special court judge, the apex court permitted extra time. A bench headed by justice MM Khanwilkar considered the petition filed by special trial court judge Honey M Varghese.

Earlier, the special court judge had approached the top court seeking more time to complete the trial procedures in the case. According to reports, in the letter submitted before the Supreme Court, the judge had informed that the trial was not finished on time due to the delay in producing the prosecution's transfer petitions. In addition, it added that the prosecutor failed to appear before the court.

In 2019, a bench headed by AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari had informed the trial court to complete the trial within six months. However, in the wake of the pandemic, the trial got disrupted. Following this in 2020, the Supreme Court even granted another six more months to complete the trial.

In the sensational 2017 actress assault case, a woman actor was allegedly kidnapped and abused sexually while travelling to Kochi for a shoot. There were nearly four men, who had allegedly filmed the attack. Malayalam actor Dileep, one among the accused, was arrested in July 2017 and later released two months on bail.
