Kerala records 3,382 new Covid-19 cases and 6,055 recoveries on Monday

Kerala reported 3,382 new Covid-19 cases on Monday. In a press briefing, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the state has collected 34,689 samples in the last 24 hours. Currently, Kerala has 64,589 active Covid-19 cases.

Vijayan said that cases were rising in Kottayam, Wayanad and Idukki.

Out of 3,382 cases, 2,880 persons were infected through contact, 64 infected persons came from outside the state. However, the source of infection for 405 cases is still unknown. 33 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.

Kerala also reported 6,055 recoveries, taking the recovery toll to 5,38,713. The chief minister said that over 90% of the Covid positive patients have recovered from the virus.

However, Vijayan confirmed that there are 21 casualties, taking the state’s death toll to 2,244. The test positivity rate of Kerala is 9.75%.

Vijayan said that the state will study the feasibility of producing vaccine. A panel of experts, headed by Dr Jacob John of Vellore Medical College, will study the feasibility of vaccine manufacturing.
