The Karnataka government has revised timings and date of the night curfew imposed after the identification of the new strain of Covid-19 in the UK.

Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa informed that night curfew will commence from tonight and will continue till January 2, 2021. The new timings are 11pm and 5am. However, the Chief Minister added that despite the night curfew, midnight Christmas Mass has been permitted and can be held without interruption on the night of December 24. However, the New Year celebrations will be as per earlier guidelines.

Initially, the government had planned to impose the night curfew from December 23, between 10pm to 6am. However, they later revised the date and time of imposing the curfew. The cause for this curfew is the new Covid-19 strain, first identified in the United Kingdom. The state government has added that international passengers travelling or transiting from the UK must compulsorily undergo the Covid-19 RT-PCR tests within 72 hours of arriving in the state.

Karnataka has become the second state following Maharashtra’s decision to impose a night curfew earlier this week. On December 22, Maharashtra imposed a 7-hour curfew till January 5, 2021, between 11pm to 6am.
