Elephants in the wild

I visited Corbett National Park in 2016 and 2017. Both the trips were during summer. Although the reserve is open from mid-November till end of June, the reason why I picked summer for my visit was because the chances of spotting wildlife is higher during those months. One can sight numerous herds of elephants travelling in search of water during this period. The park turns misty during winter, making it difficult to spot animals.

The Corbett National Park is a favourite amongst photographers as you can be sure of clicking a good picture. The open vast grassland juxtaposed against tall trees at Corbett, makes for a picturesque frame, something photographers find tough to find in the national parks down South. Apart from a picture-perfect backdrop, there are more chances of animal sightings here. If you spend three to four days at the Park, you will be able to get shots of even tigers amidst the scenic landscape.

The park has been divided into several zones for safari. The Dhikala zone is located around 30 km from the main road. It a core zone. It is rare for a national park to allow visitors into a core zone. You can also stay inside a compound in the zone. There is limited lodging at the park and it is tough to get an accommodation. One needs to book at least six months in advance for a room here.
