Malayalees from other states request quarantine relaxation ahead of Vishu

As Kerala is about to celebrate Vishu, the Malayalees working in other states have come up with a request for relaxation in quarantine restrictions. According to reports, Malayalee organizations in Bengaluru have submitted a petition on this matter to the Kerala Chief Minister.

On Monday, the organizations, including the Kerala Samajam Bangalore unit has mailed the request to the Chief Minister. Currently, those coming from other states to Kerala will have to register for the seven-day short visit option. The demand is an increase of the days from seven to ten. In addition, the organization also demanded that the RT-PCR test, which is to be conducted at the end of one week of monitoring, be made free. At present, one has to pay Rs 1700 for the RT-PCR test in Kerala.

The organisation expressed their disapproval over the current claims that those coming from other states are the reason for the surge in Covid-19 cases in Kerala. The implementation of Covid-19 related restrictions, including night curfew, has hit Malayalee traders hard.

Meanwhile, even when the state is witnessing a sudden increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, Ernakulam creates a record of being the first district in the state to complete the distribution of vaccines to all persons above 60 years of age. The distribution of the vaccine in the district is continuing with the cooperation of various sectors under the leadership of the local bodies.

Verappuzha panchayat in the district was the first panchayat to complete the task of vaccinating all persons above 60 years of age. Later, Mookkannur Panchayat and Piravom Municipality too adopted the same model and have completed the vaccination of persons above 60 years.
