Covid-19: Oommen Chandy continues working from hosp room; Pinarayi Vijayan will be discharged today

Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has not let Covid-19 stop him from working from his hospital room. The former Kerala CM was admitted to a private in Thiruvananthapuram after testing positive on April 8.

Chandy told a leading Malayalam news channel that he does not need time to rest despite being hospitalized. “I am staying at the hospital since I tested positive for Covid-19,” he said. The 77-year-old senior Congress leader is currently busy with election review and is working from his hospital room. His son, Chandy Oommen informed that the former Kerala CM is in good health and there are no symptoms or any other problems.

From time to time, senior Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and AK Antony and check on the former Kerala CM. Kerala megastars Mohanlal and Mamooty, who are close to Chandy, call him up and check on his health. Chandy keeps in touch with senior Congress leaders, district presidents and UDF candidates over the phone. Chandy spends his time reading the newspaper and watching the news.

A few days before hospitalization, Chandy was having a fever and Doctors advised that he should be hospitalized. Initially, Chandy’s family felt it would be better for him to rest at home but was later admitted to a private hospital. During the Kerala Assembly elections, senior political leaders were campaigning continuously despite rising Covid-19 cases. Hours before Chandy’s tests results returned, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan informed that he has tested positive.

Meanwhile, Vijayan is set to be discharged from the Kozhikode hospital after testing negative for Covid-19. Vijayan underwent the Covid-19 test after his daughter Veena Vijayan tested positive. His son-in-law PA Muhammad Riyas also tested positive and has asked everyone who was exposed to him to undergo quarantine.

The Kerala Chief Minister informed that he is getting admitted to Kozhikode medical college hospital. Vijayan has shown no symptoms of Covid-19 despite testing positive.
